In search of an invite to buy a OnePlus 2 smartphone

A couple of months back, Vidhi, my wife, felt the need to have a new smartphone as her old Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone stopped functioning efficiently thanks to the repeated slamming of the phone on a floor of the house by Falak, our two year old boisterous son! Having used an Android OS for quite a long time, one of the relatives suggested her to switch to a Microsoft device and gave a positive review of it. With the options like Gionee, Xiaomi, HTC, Microsoft etc. suggested by a nearby smartphone vendor, she finally zeroed in on Microsoft Lumia 640 XL. While the phone works fine without glitches, she is finding it difficult to operate it with same ease as she operated an Android device earlier. She has not been able to accustom to the change of an OS even after two months. Plethora of apps available on Android platform makes her miss the most popular mobile phone OS so much so that she is thinking of dumping the Microsoft device and replacing it with a new Android alternative!

As our 3rd marriage anniversary draws closer, I asked a few of my friends to suggest the best smartphone to buy these days, so that I can buy one and give a pleasant surprise to my wife. Like those elected Indian MPs readily agreeing to pass a resolution on a hike in salary of the parliamentarians without any protest, all my friends unanimously suggested only one phone to go for: OnePlus 2! That is when I became familiar with this new brand of cell phone for the first time. Alas! Pardon, my ignorance! However, my excitement to inquire about the phone at a nearby mobile shop diminished as soon one of the friends informed that this phone cannot be obtained without an invite from the company or a user who already owns it. As instructed by Amazon.in, I gave a missed call on a mobile number +91 8286087530 with the hope of being added to their esteemed list of potential lucky buyers who might later get a precious invite to buy a phone that is witnessing a high demand among smartphone users these days.

As of yet, there has been no progress in buying this item. One of the friends says that buying any phone other than OnePlus 2 will be no less than a compromise. Not even OnePlus 1, OnePlus X - the other models by the same company - have managed to grab as many eyeballs as OnePlus 2 has! Getting an invite to buy a OnePlus 2 phone these days seems more precious and prestigious than securing a permanent seat for India at a UN security council! ;)
